The early years

It was winter 1997 and I was obsessed with the idea of diving shipwrecks one day. Stoked by pages and pages of National Geographic photos, I saw the ancient clay vases and vessels from the shipwrecks that lay strewn over the sea floor. The mystery of what they held, their shape, their beauty, I needed to see what it was like to make one.

I learnt pottery from Pamela Greengrass, who like all amazing things in life, is a fine ceramics Artist and Teacher that had come to live along side us out on the farm. From Pam I learnt how to bind and move clay, became comfortable with the tools and experience the 'no two are the same' firing processes. More importantly I learnt that failure and broken pieces are just the essential sacrifices that must occur if you want to be an Artist. From there I was hooked.

I  reflect on these days as some of the happiest in my life.
